Man, there isn't anything or anyone that doesn't have a documentary film now. Viva Les Amis documents both the old Austin restaurant/hangout, Les Amis (you might've seen it in the movie Slacker), and the changing cultural climate of Austin. From locally owned to corporate chains. The site of the old Les Amis now houses a Starbucks. Insult to injury. Next door was a really cool record store, Inner Sanctum. Wonder when Inner Sanctum gets its documentary. Well, I'll see the movie and feel nostalgic for pre-corporate Austin. I wasn't part of the Les Amis scene, but I ate there a lot.
Just read The Five People You Meet in Heaven. Very quickly. Couldn't put it down. I had heard about the movie - can't remember what I heard about it, but I wanted to see it. Jenni said her sister had loaned her the book. Since I generally enjoy books better than movies, I borrowed it from her.
I just looked up the movie and found out it was made4TV, but the trailer doesn't look all that bad. I might still check out the movie. But I'd recommend the book first.
