World of Ends: What the Internet Is and How to Stop Mistaking It for Something Else.
by Doc Searls and David Weinberger

Gary Hart has a blog.
"Our people would also rally around a national project to make us sufficiently energy efficient that no American need die for foreign oil in the future. And we can all participate in shifting our economy from one of consumption to one of saving, investment, and productivity."

We were up before dawn Sunday - way before dawn - and walked to an all-night restaurant that wasn't closed for Easter. There was a Purple Martin sitting on a wire over a normally busy intersection, singing his nutty little R2D2 chirps and whirring song. When we got home, I got my mini-disc recorder and rode my bicycle back to record him.

I wish I'd brought my video camera, though, because a guy (probably in his 20's) was skating down the street, alone, before dawn, buck naked except for a t-shirt wrapped around his waist like a loin cloth. Old-fashioned skates. Not inline.

Princess Caraboo

Intriguing. Here's more from a descendent of the hoaxer. And another on the intriguingly titled mysteriouspeople.com. I hadn't heard of Princess or Lady Caraboo before. Now I see there's a popular movie about her, which makes it difficult to search for the person herself. I hate that about movies... there's always more about movies than about books or real people on the web. But that's another story. I learned about Miss Caraboo from the Forgotten English day-calendar Jenni gave me for Christmas. Caraboo was used to illustrate the word of the day, hingkponk, meaning, an imposter.

euh?
Endless fun. Non sequitur following non sequitur. (Is that possible?) Thanks, Rodney.

Oh, Double Happiness. I've recovered (I think) from a hacker (sorry, 'cracker') cracking my webserver at work AND they've opened the gates and relaxed security where I work. They've been very restrictive - very inconvenient - ever since Bush's "military action" started and Mr. Duct Tape said, "Code Orange!". So, my server is hopefully more secure and my workplace more free and open.

Tax Day 2003.
Not quite as last minute as some years, but I finally got my taxes done for another year, with 10 hours to spare. Yay.

Daylights Savings Time means that it's totally dark, middle-of-the-night dark, out right now at 6:15 AM. But I just heard a Mockingbird singing like it was the middle of a bright sunny day. Also heard a Screech Owl whinnying a little while ago.

Holy guacamole, what an inspiring film. I haven't seen an 'art film' in too long. Inspiring, I mean, in the sense of inspiring me to do more of my own video and other creative work, not in the sense of stand up and salute. Ya know, not like 'Inspirational' music, etc. Not inspired to go back to church, unless said church practises yoga and neurofeedback and Jungian analysis. Anyway, insomnia is leading me astray. To get back to the film.... Rodney captured it on his computer, from the Sundance channel and burned us a VideoCD of the film. I'd probably buy it on DVD, if it were available. (VHS only, apparently.) It is a fairly 'dark' film, but some of the images were utterly mesmerizing. Totally hypnotic. It's kind of like Koyaanisqatsi, but using old silver nitrate film that has degraded, so there are lots of bubbles in the film and totally bizarre solirization and other effects of old film. Very cool.

blair interview: LYNDA BARRY, funk queen USA

Great interview. via roblord.org via comments on Steven Johnson's thoughts on Baghdad's Fall. (Oh, by the way, you have to click on the little flowers to see Lynda Barry's answers to Blair's questions.) I like what she had to say about meditation and yoga.

shrike
Finally caught up with the Loggerhead Shrike. Discovered this one by chance during my lunchbreak and watched it (him? her?) building a nest of twigs and string.

One of my old Idle Time photos of The Mo-Dettes was published, 22 years after the fact, in the latest issue of Venus magazine, the one with Cat Power on the cover. And they spelled my name correctly! Check it out, page 94.

Poison Ivy FAQ
Well, my poison ivy is almost gone, but I finally remembered to look it up on the web. I've already gotten it twice this spring, so I imagine I'll get it again. This is the answer I was looking for:

"Once you have the rash the oil has been absorbed and you probably can't spread it to others or elsewhere on yourself. If you get big blisters filled with liquid it is mostly water and will not spread the rash even if they break."
